These chocolate covered apple bat wings are the perfect Halloween treat! They are sweet, so cute, and fun to make.
Treats are the biggest part of Halloween in my opinion. If you have good treats, you have a good Halloween. All the sugar can get to be a bit much though, especially for little kids. I have a 2- and 4-year-old so having a healthier treat option for them is nice. These would be the perfect treat for your littles ones to take to school for their Halloween class party.
Making these is a fun festive activity to do with kids as well. They can help cut them and dip them in the chocolate.
Store these in the refrigerator before serving so the chocolate doesn’t melt. When dipping the apple pieces into the chocolate I left the middles clean, so they are easier and less messy to eat. You could cover the whole thing in chocolate if you prefer.
Ingredients
- Granny Smith Apples
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
Kitchen Tools Needed
- Knife
- Cutting Board
- Frosting Tip
- Sheet Pan
- Parchment Paper
- Small Microwavable Bowl
- Spoon
Instructions
- Wash and thoroughly dry the apples.
- Slice the apples into 1/4-inch coins.
- Cut those in half to make half-moon pieces.
- With a knife, cut the top part of the moon shape in a curved way to make the top of the wing.
- On the bottom, the straight side, using the frosting tip, cut out 3 half circles.
- Set the finished cut apple slices on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper.
- In a small microwavable bowl, put in the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Microwave them in 30 second intervals and stir after each time until chocolate is smooth.
- Holding the inner part of the bat wing apple piece, dipped it into the melted chocolate and use a spoon to help get it all over both sides and evenly. Make sure the chocolate stays warm so you can easily dip them. You can reheat the chocolate if you need to.
- Lay it back onto the parchment paper in a single layer.
- Once you have dipped all the pieces, put them in the freezer for 10 minutes to set up.
- Serve or store in the fridge in an airtight container until ready to serve.
