Learn how to dehydrate bananas so you can enjoy bananas anywhere without having to worry about bruising them.
These dehydrated bananas taste a lot like store bought banana chips. They have the same crunchiness to them, just without all the saturated fat. I didn’t know until literally today that the ones you buy at the store are deep fried. Who knew!
I prefer these though because for one, healthier, and two, cheaper. Thirdly, no more bruised bananas on trips. My kids love bananas, but they get mushy and brown really easy when traveling, which no one likes that. Dehydrating them eliminates that problem but you still get the same nutrition and delicious taste. These are a great snack for hiking, road trips, and lunch boxes.
It’s best to use more ripe bananas because the banana flavor is stronger. You can add cinnamon to them before drying them to make them even more to your liking. They are good with some salt sprinkled on them too. After they are dehydrated, they are good dipped in chocolate to make an even more sweet treat. The ways to enjoy these are endless. Another reason why I love to have them in my pantry.
You can soak the bananas in lemon juice for a few minutes to prevent browning during the drying process. I don’t love the lemony taste it gives the bananas though, so I choose to skip this step, hence the browner color in the finished product. To me taste outweighs looks.
