This Halloween puppy chow is a fun way to add the Halloween spirit to snack or dessert time. Easy enough your kids can make this!
I had so much fun making this Halloween puppy chow! Picking out which colors I wanted to dye the powdered sugar mixture and then what sprinkles I wanted to use to make this a spooky treat. I ended up choosing green and purple to go for a slime monster. Added some purple sugar sprinkles and some eyeballs and that was it! I know right now on the grocery store shelves there are all kinds of fun Halloween sprinkles. Do whatever your heart desires!
I think this would be super cute with white and orange powdered sugar mixture drizzled over the top with the eyeballs. The options are truly endless. Anything you or your kids pick will turn out so cute!
This is such a fun and cheap way to celebrate the holiday. Make this as a craft with your kids on the weekend or make it to put in goody bags to give away as gifts.
I have a traditional Puppy Chow recipe that you should try as well!
Ingredients
- Rice Chex Cereal
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- Creamy Peanut Butter
- Butter
- Powdered Sugar
- Milk
- Food Coloring
- Halloween Sprinkles
Instructions
- Line a sheet pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
- In a microwave safe bowl, add the semi-sweet chocolate chips, creamy peanut butter, and butter. Microwave for 1 minute. If the chocolate chips aren’t all the way melted after that, microwave in 15 second increments until melted. Mix together well after melted.
- Pour over the top of the rice Chex cereal in a large bowl. Gently stir until the cereal is fully coated with the chocolate mixture. Spread it out in a thin layer on the lined sheet pan.
- While the chocolate cools on the cereal, split your powdered sugar evenly between two bowls. Add a few drops of green food coloring to one bowl and then a few drops of purple food coloring to the other. Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of milk to each bowl and whisk until smooth.
- Using a fork, drizzle the colored powdered sugar over the chocolate coated cereal. Top that with your Halloween sprinkles.
- Chill in the fridge for an hour so the chocolate and powdered sugar can harden. Keep stored in an airtight container on the counter.
