Utilizing the items I have canned in my pantry is an important part of saving on my grocery bill and being self-sufficient. Canned Apple Pie Filling is one I love to can and find super easy to utilize because you don’t just have to make pie with it!
If you’ve never had dessert pizza, I have to tell you, it’s incredible! It’s sweet and satisfying. It’s perfect for any occasion and a real crowd pleaser.
Helpful Tips
- You can use store bought dough instead of making it yourself if you want to save on time.
- To reheat the leftovers, you can microwave a slice for about 15 seconds.
- You can use any kind of pie filling, doesn’t have to be apple.
- Don’t make the crust too thin or it won’t hold up to the heavy toppings.
- Leftovers don’t have to be refrigerated. Best used within 3 days.
Ingredients
- Flour
- Active Dry Yeast
- Granulated Sugar
- Water
- Salt
- Apple Pie Filling
- Old Fashioned Oats
- Butter
- Brown Sugar
- Powdered Sugar
- Milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- In a stand mixer, combine the granulated sugar, water, and active dry yeast. Whisk together. Let sit for 5 minutes.
- Knead in 3/4 cup flour and salt until everything is combined. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 15 minutes.
- Roll out the dough into a 13-inch-wide circle. Place on a lightly floured pizza stone.
- Lay out the apples in the pie filling first in a single layer across the dough. Then evenly distribute the liquid part of the filling over the apples.
- To make the crumble, using room temperature butter, combine it, a 1/2 cup of flour, and the brown sugar. Combine until it is clumpy.
- Sprinkle the crumble evenly over the pizza.
- Bake for about 25 minutes or until the crust is browned.
- While the pizza is cooling, make the frosting drizzle. Whisk together the milk and powdered sugar.
- Once the pizza has cooled a bit, drizzle the frosting all over the pizza to finish it. Slice and serve warm.

The recipe does not list butter in the ingredients for the crumble. How much butter is used?
