Turn ground pork and turkey into the best baked barbecue meatballs! Put them on a bun or alongside some mashed potatoes, you can’t go wrong.
I organized the big deep freezer in my shop the other day and realized we are pretty much down to just ground meat. No more steaks, or roasts. Sad day. Over my years of learning to cook for my family, I’ve learned there are a lot more options for ground meat than just burgers and tacos. I make those a lot too, but it’s easy to get sick of eating them all the time. These meatballs are a fantastic way to utilize ground meat.
The meatballs are incredible tasting. They are so flavorful and tender. I don’t know why most recipes call for breadcrumbs for meatballs, they don’t need it! It takes away from the flavor and makes them dry. Nothing worse than a dry meatball.
Use your favorite kind of barbecue sauce for this recipe. I used a kind that I canned last year called Liquid Gold Barbecue Sauce. It’s made with the leftover brine from candied jalapenos, also known as Cowboy Candy. It’s amazing! By far my favorite barbecue sauce, plus it’s a great way to not waste that extra brine when canning jalapenos. I’ve linked my recipe for the candied jalapenos because those are worth making as well.
I love to make these for gatherings of all kinds since they are gluten and dairy free. A safe but oh so delicious appetizer for guests to enjoy.
If there are leftovers, these freeze beautifully. Vacuum seal them and they will keep in the freezer for several months.
